Frogs

Frogs

1512-1527

Aquatic frogs live their entire lives underwater but need to rise to the surface to breathe air because they have lungs and not gills. These frogs are small in size and do not weigh more than a few grams.

Newts

Newts

15152-15148

Newts, as with salamanders in general and other amphibians, serve as bioindicators because of their thin, sensitive skin. Most species are highly sensitive to subtle changes in the pH level of the streams and lakes where they live. Because their skin is permeable to water, they absorb oxygen and other substances they need through their skin.
